Light Academy Uganda was opened with a total of about 45 students in the school at Kansanga in a storage building with only the ordinary level. Light Academy Uganda was transferred to the newly established campus on Lweza – Kigo Road off Entebbe -Kla Road(Kajjansi-Munyonyo Highway) with a total of about 83 students from senior one to senior four. The school is now located here on the shores of Lake Victoria with the lake view overlooking the school.

Welcome to Light Academy Admissions Office. LAS/S admits students from different parts of the world. The environment is purely international standard, catering to the diverse educational and cultural backgrounds of the students.

We follow the UNEB Curriculum in spanning the Secondary Level.

Placement is dependent on the child’s age. However, if deemed necessary other aspects may have to be considered as well.

General Information

Light Academy offers the Uganda National Development Centre (NCDC) curriculum. Both the ordinary and Advanced level leavers are assessed using the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB).

Hours of study

The school day begins at 8:00am and ends at 5:30pm. 5:30pm to 6:30pm is the time for co-curricular activities. All staff are required to report for duty by 7:45am. This also applies to teachers who may not have lessons during the first period.

Assemblies

School assemblies are held every Monday and Friday from 7:50am to 8:15am. All teachers, administrators and students attend.

ICT

The school cherishes computer-aided learning (CAL) and ICT-based teaching. All staff are equipped and continuously improve their ICT skills and apply them in their professional practice.

Co-curricular Involvement

a) Make a valuable contribution to school life outside of the classroom by participating in and developing clubs & societies, house activities, community service and other school programmes as a mentor, coach, trainer, organizer, booster, guide, advisor and model.

b) Popularize the school co-curricular programme to become vibrant and dynamic. Encourage student leadership and responsibility.

c) Organise recreational and adventure trips for students where appropriate.

Progression Targets

The school set a 60% standard minimum attainment level for normal progression to the next class for O level and at least 12 points for A level. This will be determined from time to time.

Below are some of the extra co-curricular activities that took place within and outside Light Academy.

Academic

• Internal debates every Wednesday after classes

• Attended quiz competitions on National television and won 1st place.

• Went for a 4-day geography study tour to western Uganda in December

• Attended internal and external seminars on different subjects

• Swimming instructions and competitions every weekend throughout the year.

Sports

– 1st term

• Zonal football competition and reached the district level

• Rugby district tournament and reached quarters

• Inter-house games in football, rugby, basketball, volleyball and table tennis.

– 2nd term

• Inter-house games continued

• Sports day where field events took place.

• Rugby continued between schools in the Wakiso district

– 3rd term

• Inter classes’ football and rugby tournament, with F.5 sci. and F.5 arts winning respectively.

Trips

• We organize trips to Turkey for our parents around August – September.

• Organize picnic for students class by class every weekend
