Mbarara High School – Mbarara

The 101-year Mbarara school Sits on top of Ruharo Hill in Mbarara Municipality popularly known as the seat for Ankole Diocese in addition to the remains of Ankole Kingdom.  

The school is accessible through Mbarara Kasese Highway at Ruharo stage and belted by Ankole diocese seat buildings housing various projects with the St. James Cathedral, which also serves as the students’ chapel, standing out.

A’Level Academic Program

The Advanced Level Academic Program Follows the national curriculum teaching for two years from S5 -to S6 of rigorous academics within either science or Arts subjects. At the beginning of this level, Students must choose three principal subjects and one subsidiary subject. These selections form subject combinations which are examined at the national level at the end of two years. 

Mbarara High School was started as a primary school by the Church Missionary Society (CMS) on February 19, 1911, at the king’s palace in Kamukuzi. J. Kironde was the first headteacher helped by Rev. H. Clayton.

O’Level Academic Program

The Ordinary Level Academic Program Follows the national curriculum teaching for four years from S1 to S4 of rigorous academics within mathematics, science subjects, English, and Social Science Subjects. Students must also choose from various skilling subjects that are also examined on a national level at the end of four years. 

Ruharo Hill in Mbarara Municipality is popularly known as the seat of the Ankole Diocese. But also on this hill, Ankole Kingdom, before its demise, the Church Missionary Society founded the 101-year Mbarara High School.
