In nursery school, children develop basic skills which will later ensure them good reading and writing skills. They thus acquire fundamental learning and also have their first relational experiences with other children their age.

The entire team also strives to ensure the welcome and well-being of our young students, to guarantee them the best learning conditions.

The play holds a special place: it promotes the richness of lived experiences and nourishes all areas of learning. Kindergarten also allows children to learn together and live together: it ensures a first acquisition of the principles of life in society and allows the child to develop as a unique person within a group.

Educational programs

The programs applied at the French School of Kampala comply with those of French National Education taught in all French schools.

School learning is based on a common base of knowledge and skills defined by the French Ministry of National Education. Primary schooling includes three cycles.

Nursery school is the cycle of primary learning, it constitutes the educational and pedagogical base on which learning is based and developed. The child must acquire rich oral language, organized and understandable by others. It is through play, action, independent research and experiences that the child, following his path, builds his fundamental acquisitions.

There are 5 areas of learning worked on in nursery school:

Mobilize language in all its dimensions
Act, express yourself, understand through physical activity
Act, express yourself, understand through artistic activities
Build the first tools to structure your thinking
Explore the world

The nursery school welcomes children who have reached the age of 3 by December 31 of the current school year at the latest. There is a very small section within our school which can accommodate children from 2 years old.
At the nursery school of the French School of Kampala, particular attention is paid to each person’s rate of progress. The child’s progress is regularly monitored.

In addition to French, all children learn English from middle school (3 hours per week).

Support in FLE (French as a Foreign Language) is also offered to all students whose mother tongue is not French.

A project school

In kindergarten, we work on projects throughout the year: artistic, seasonal or cultural projects. We learn at our own pace, together or independently, in a workshop with the teacher or in an individualized activity. We play a lot, indoors, outdoors, in the classroom, in the motor skills room, in the library.

We use digital technology to exchange, obtain information, write stories or discover the world. In each level, a childminder is permanently present in the class to assist the teacher.

Infrastructure and access

Located on wooded land, the nursery section has three classrooms and a motor skills room, a large protected courtyard and is equipped with games.

A library welcomes students with their teachers. Children listen to stories and can freely consult the albums.

Timetable

Children come to class every day from 8:00 a.m. to 2:15 p.m.
