Call for Applications: Short Courses in Data Analysis with R & Python

Applications are invited for participation in two short courses in data analysis with R and Python

The Makerere University Data Science Research Training Program to Strengthen Evidence-Based Health Innovation, Intervention, and Policy (MakDARTA) is offering training through two online short courses of 2/3 hours per week, over a period of 5 to 8 months and culminating in a certificate upon completion.

Background

Makerere University College of Health Sciences (MakCHS) in collaboration with the Johns Hopkins University, (JHU) in the USA was awarded a training grant (1U2RTW012116-01) funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and Fogarty International Center (FIC) known as the Makerere University Data Science Research Training Program to Strengthen Evidence-Based Health Innovation, Intervention, and Policy (MakDARTA).

This program aims to build health data science research capacity at the Makerere University College of Health Sciences (MakCHS) through advanced training for the acquisition of requisite skills in data science in order to further hasten the consumption of healthcare-derived information for timely deployment of evidence-based interventions.

Online short courses:

  1. Data Analysis with R Specialization
    • a) R programming
    • b) Regression analysis
    • c) Statistical inference
    • d) Statistical hypothesis testing
    • e) Install and use R and RStudio
  2. Python for Everybody specialization
    • a) Python programming and data structures
    • b) Utilize core programming tools such as functions and loops
    • c) Using databases with python
    • d) Visualising, processing, and retrieving data with python

Eligibility criteria:

  1. Evidence of the first degree in health or biological sciences with quantitative skills in statistics, mathematics, bioinformatics, or computer science
  2. Interest in data science

How to Apply:

  1. Please complete the application form below and submit it as part of your application.
  2. Create an account: go to https://www.coursera.org, select ‘Join for Free’ on the top left, and then ‘Create a new account’. This will allow you to apply to the course and the account will keep track of your application and data
  3. Once you have created your account, log in to https://www.coursera.org with your details.
