Bachelor of Laws Pre-entry Examination for the 2021/2022 academic year will be conducted on Saturday, September 2021.
KAMPALA – Makerere University has said the Bachelor of Laws Pre-entry Examination for the 2021/2022 academic year will be conducted on Saturday, September 2021.
The Academic Registrar, Mr Alfred Masikye Namoah, in a statement issued on Monday, 14 September 2021, said the exams will start at 9am while observing the Ministry of Health standard operating procedures (SOPs).
“All candidates who applied to sit the Bachelor of Laws Pre-entry Examination 2021/2022 are hereby invited to come and sit for the said examination on September 30, 2021. The examination will commence at 9.00 a.m,” the statement reads in part.
“The examination will be conducted following the Ministry of Health guidelines and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) against the spread of COVID-19 as listed below in order to ensure that the applicants take the examination under a safe and comfortable environment,” it adds.
Everyone’s temperature will be taken before accessing the examination venue. hand sanitizers in the examination rooms will be available while wearing of face masks by all candidates and examination officials is mandatory.
Social distancing with candidates seated 2 – 4 meters apart from one another will be observed; all windows will be opened to promote circulation of fresh air and Candidates will not be permitted to borrow items (pen, pencil, rubber, ruler, calculators) from each other. Candidates are reminded to carry sufficient items needed to write the examination.

Eligibility
The university categorizes pre-entry candidates in three different entry requirements.
A-level leavers must have obtained a minimum of 13 points for male applicants and 12 points for female applicants in any A-Level combination for Humanities and Sciences.
However, those who sat for their A-Level exams before 2013 should have obtained at least 15 and 14 points for male and female applicants respectively.
Mature age entrants must have passed the mature age entry examination (for Bachelor of Laws) for either 2019/2020 or 2020/2021 Academic Year while degree holders must at least hold a bachelor’s of any discipline from a recognised university, although they don’t qualify for government sponsorship.
Mr. Masikye added that all applicants interested in government sponsorship must have applied for Bachelor of Laws by filling in the government application form (Pujab form).
Diploma and degree holders will be required to submit a certified copy of the academic transcript.
The completed application form should be returned within two days, to the balcony Level 3 Senate Building from where applicants will receive further instructions.
He added that applicants will be given some past papers to assist them in preparation for the examination at a cost of UGX5000 each.
Applicants will be assessed in areas of reading and comprehension skills, language skills, numerical skills, and logic.
Other areas will include general knowledge, analytical writing skills, general knowledge and analytical writing skills.

The Academic Registrar Makerere University announces that the Pre-Entry Examination for admission to the Bachelor of Laws for 2021/2022 will be held on Saturday 30th October, 2021.
To be eligible to sit the examination, Applicants must possess the minimum admission requirements of the University, and any one of the following specific requirements:
i) ‘A’ Level leavers: Must hold an ‘O’ Level Certificate (UCE) or its equivalent with at least 5 Passes plus ‘A’ Level Certificate (UACE) or its equivalent having obtained a minimum of 13 points (Males) and 12 points (for Females) in any ‘A’ Level combination for both Humanities and Sciences. Candidates who did ‘A’ Level before 2013 should have 15 and 14 points for male and female applicants respectively.
ii) Diploma Holders: Must possess at least a Second Class or Credit Diploma from a chartered institution. Certified Copies of Diploma Transcripts (No Provisional Results) from the Awarding Institutions must be attached to the Application Forms.
iii) Mature Age Applicants: Must have passed the Makerere University Mature Age Entry Examination (for Bachelor of Laws) for either 2019/2020 or 2020/2021 Academic Year. Government sponsorship is only for those who sat Mature Age Exams for 2021/2022 Academic Year and applied for it.
iv) Degree Holders: Must be graduates in any Discipline from a Chartered University. Certified Copies of Degree Transcripts (No Provisional Results) from the Awarding Institutions must be attached to the Application Forms. (Degree holders are not eligible for government sponsorship)
N.B.
i) All applicants wishing to be admitted to the BACHELOR OF LAWS programme offered by Makerere University are required to sit and pass the Pre-Entry Examination of Makerere University .
ii) All applicants interested in Government Sponsorship must have applied for BACHELOR OF LAWS GOVERNMENT (LAW) by filing in the Government Application Form. Applicants interested in Private Sponsorship for day (LAW), AFTERNOON (LLA) and LAW EXECUTIVE (LLE) will apply for admission after passing the BACHELOR OF LAWS PRE-ENTRY EXAMINATION.
(iii) All applicants who hold Diplomas and Degrees must present a Certified Copy of the academic transcript. Provisional results shall not be accepted to register for this examination.
(iv) Applicants should note that admission is based on performance in the Pre-Entry Examination and intake capacities for GOVERNMENT, PRIVATE DAY AND PRIVATE EVENING for all categories ie ‘A’ LEVEL, DIPLOMA HOLDER, MATURE AGE, DEGREE HOLDER and INTERNATIONAL Applicants.
(v) All applicants must present the original academic documents to the Academic Registrar’s Office at Makerere University during the registration process.
Application Forms for those intending to sit the examination are obtainable at the University, Room 505, Senate Building on payment of a Non-refundable Application Fee of Shs. 110,000/= including six past papers, excluding the Bank charges (paid in any Stanbic Bank Branch, DFCU, Post bank, UBA and Centenary Bank,) after getting a Payment Registration Number (PRN).
