Umeme Limited is the largest energy distributor in Uganda, distributing 97 percent of all electricity used in the country. The shares of the stock of the company are listed on the Uganda Securities Exchange and are cross listed on the Nairobi Stock Exchange.

Job Summary:  The GNIS Developer is an important role in the
Umeme network Plant & systems operations. The GNIS developer is responsible for the development of customized GNIS applications as per approved GIS application development policies, standards, processes and procedures to meet business needs and automate key functions.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:  

·  Document user GNIS user requirements and specifications for the development of the GNIS system and applications.

· Produce clean and efficient code, based on specifications for the automation and management of GNIS system and applications.

· Integrate GNIS software components and third-party programs for efficient execution of business operations.

· Test, verify and deploy GNIS applications and systems for the business to strengthen network planning and operations.

· Troubleshoot, debug and upgrade existing GNIS applications

· Track performance, gather and evaluate user feedback on GNIS system and supporting third-party applications.

· Recommend and execute improvements on GNIS applications.

· Create technical documentation for reference, version control and reporting for the GNIS systems & supporting applications.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

·  The ideal candidate for the Umeme GNIS Developer job vacancy must hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Computer Science or its equivalent, Software Engineering or Information Technology from a recognized/chartered university.

·  Two years’ experience in test-driven application development environment in particular for GNIS applications.

·  Knowledge of coding languages (e.g. C++, Python, Java, JavaScript.

·  Experience with databases and Object-Relational Mapping (ORM) frameworks.

·  Ability to learn new languages and technologies.
