2020 Call for ERASMUS Scholarship Application for a PhD Fellow Placement in HIV and aging, University of Turin, Italy

Background

Makerere University and University of Turing have a longstanding Cooperation agreement. The partnership seeks to establish scientific cooperation between the 2 Universities to train a new generation of high caliber scholars and researchers in the two countries It is against this background that we are announcing the following opportunity: PhD Fellow

Placement at University of Turin, Italy

This opportunity seeks to support an early stage PhD fellow with interest in geriatric HIV. Since in Uganda currently there is no Geriatric Medicine postgraduate training, PhD fellow would benefit more from the placement at early stages.

General Requirement for applicants

The successful candidates should have excellent oral and written English communication skills. Although the programme is run in English, the candidate may opt to take a short course in Italian language to be able to adopt in the short stay.

Eligibility

 Be a Ugandan national

 Having a developed PhD concept focused on HIV and Aging

 Be fluent or show proof of fluency in English Language, since English language is the language of instruction and thesis writing at Makerere University

 Highly motivated individuals, capable of self-directed study

Funding

The fellowship is fully funded under the Erasmus+ program of the European Commission. The support from the Erasmus+ EU funds for the mobility period is EUR 850,000 per month. In addition, the participants shall receive EUR 820,00 as a contribution for travel. The participants should as a requirement anticipate the cost of a round trip ticket, visa requirements and pocket money and for the first month in Torino.

Timeline

The fellowship duration is 3 months (100 days) and will starts in 2020

How to apply

Interested persons should address their application to the to the Head of Research Infectious Diseases Institute bcastelnuovo@idi.co.ug. Applicants should send their research concept and a cover letter. Applicants will be scored based on the scientific merit of their concepts by 2 reviewers (1 in Turin and 1 in Uganda). Candidates with the highest scores will be interviewed and required to nominate two academic referees.
