Kyambogo To Partner With Naguru Hospital To Improve Joint Research And Capacity Development 2019

On Friday, October 11, 2019, Dr. Rukundo Peter Milton, a lecturer in the Department of Foods and Nutrition at
Kyambogo University led a delegation from Kyambogo University to Naguru hospital following an invitation
from Naguru hospital to a meeting on the proposed collaboration between Kyambogo University and Naguru
Referral Hospital.

The purpose of the collaboration was to define the terms and conditions and responsibilities of the parties involved in facilitating partnership, learning and professional development in human nutrition and dietetics; harness joint research and capacity development in areas of human nutrition, dietetics and public health and; to
strengthen inter-institutional and multidisciplinary actions for improved health, nutrition and development
in Uganda.

The collaborative meeting on research, joint implementation of graduate programmes and internship
inhuman nutrition and outreach were attended by staff from Kyambogo University and Naguru Referral hospital.
Dr. Rukundo said the collaboration would strengthen areas of professional development, outreach, research
nutrition, dietetics and public health.

He added that the choice for Naguru hospital is strategic for proximity, new and dynamic with room for collaboration.

He also promised to speed up the process of signing the Memorandum of Understanding to guide the
collaboration.

Dr. Edwin Wathum a lecturer in the Department of Art and Design who represented the Dean Faculty
of Vocational Studies thanked the Naguru Referral hospital management for the invitation to discuss the
collaboration; further revealed that the collaboration is domestic and will enable them to foster professional
development. ‘We are all working for Uganda and the partnership will enable us to meet our vision 2040 and the
sustainable development goals.

Kyambogo University is proud of human nutrition and dietetics programme;
we are also looking at the world of work. Much as we have graduate programmes, we are also interested in
what you can offer.’ Dr. Wathum expressed.

Dr. Kamugisha, who represented the Hospital Director, thanked the Kyambogo University team for coming and
the hospital team for selecting targeted areas. ‘We shall wait for feedback especially in the areas of research.
Once we get information, various committees will sit and advise.’ He added.
