St. Lawrence University Princeton Review Applauds Career Services Science Labs
The Princeton Review commended St. Lawrence University for its excellent Career Services office, active student government, science lab facilities and overall smooth operation in its most recent publication, Best 385 Colleges: 2020 Edition.
The newest edition of the popular college guide, which was released on Tuesday, Aug. 6, described St. Lawrence’s “excellent and rigorous academic schedule,” which provides a low student-to-faculty ratio, rich study abroad options, and “lots of opportunities to engage in the community.” One faculty member told The Princeton Review of students that “This is a group that is smart and eager to learn.” Another said alumni “are so eager to help current students through shadowing opportunities, internships, discussion panels, [and] networking events,” playing “a huge role in our very high placement rate after graduation.”
Inthe Best 385 Colleges, the University received several rankings, including Best Career Services (#10), Best-Run Colleges (#14) and Most Active Student Government (#14) and Best Science Lab Facilities (#16).
In addition to Best 385 Colleges, The Princeton Review has also included St. Lawrence in several of its additional publications, including being one of the 50 schools featured in the publication Colleges That Create Futures as well as Best Northeastern, Green Colleges, and Best Value Colleges, in which St. Lawrence earned the No. 24 spot for Best Schools for Internships and the No. 3 spot for Best Alumni Network in the nation for the second year in a row.
“St. Lawrence is consistently recognized for cultivating purposeful connections inside and outside the classroom, including our deeply engaged alumni network that facilitates the numerous internship and career opportunities afforded to our students,” said President William L. Fox.
The Princeton Review does not rank the colleges in the book. Instead, it reports 62 ranking lists of top 20 schools in the book in various categories important to prospective applicants and their parents.
“We salute St. Lawrence for its outstanding academics and we are truly pleased to recommend it to prospective applicants searching for their personal ‘best-fit’ college,” said Robert Franek, The Princeton Review’s editor-in-chief and lead author of The Best 385 Colleges.
In a “Survey Says” sidebar in the book’s profile on St. Lawrence, The Princeton Review lists topics that St. Lawrence students were in most agreement about in their answers to its survey questions. The list includes: “students are happy,” “great library,” and “students environmentally aware,” as well as Career Services, lab facilities, and recreation facilities “are great.”
In their survey of current students, The Princeton Review quoted one student as saying, “St. Lawrence is home to a very adventurous and passionate” group as a whole, and another who stated that students are “driven yet laid-back, competitive yet helpful.”
In its profile of St. Lawrence, The Princeton Review says, “this outdoorsy, spontaneous campus fosters activities every week that include hiking, rock climbing, canoeing, biking, and skiing; additionally, there are music concerts, comedians, movies, and sporting events on campus almost every weekend.” It continues: “When students aren’t doing homework, they’re almost always doing group activities like exploring the cute town of Canton, which has a farmer’s market, plenty of small shops, and restaurants.”
Only about 13 percent of America’s 3,000 four-year colleges are profiled in Best Colleges, which is the 28th edition of one of The Princeton Review’s most popular guides. The Princeton Review’s school profiles and ranking lists in The Best 385 Colleges are posted online at www.princetonreview.com.
Earlier this summer, St. Lawrence was included in Fiske Guide to Colleges, an annual list of colleges and universities that offer the best academic experience for an affordable price. Kiplinger named St. Lawrence to its 400 Best College Values for 2019, ranking it 48 among liberal arts colleges. Meanwhile, College Consensus recognized St. Lawrence University in its survey of the Best National Liberal Arts Colleges for 2019.
In March, Peace Corps announced that St. Lawrence University ranked No. 1 among small-size schools on the agency’s list of top volunteer-producing colleges and universities in 2019. And in 2018, St. Lawrence University received the NAFSA: Association of International Educators Senator Paul Simon Award for Campus Internationalization and was named as a “leader” for students studying abroad.
