Busitema University Light Board scoops an award at the African Union Innovating Education Expo 2019 The Busitema University Light board an innovation by Dr. Samson Rwahwire an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Engineering was among top 11 finalists out of the 40 selected Education Innovations award in Africa at the Innovating Education Expo 2019 organized by the African Union at Gaborone International Conference Center, Botswana. Dr. Rwahwire received a certificate of recognition from the African Union and an award of prize of USD 5,000 at the Innovating Education Expo 2019.
The award was announced to Busitema University Community by the Vice Chancellor and Chairperson of the University Senate during the 25th meeting of the University Senate held on 29th August 2019.
The Light board is a new innovation in Uganda and the first of its kind in the country’s university system. It uses principles of total internal reflection and will enable lecturers record lectures for online learners for flipped classrooms such that the learners are able to watch the recorded lectures any time.
The technology enables the lecturer to have eye contact with learners which enhances learning. The light board will obviously revolutionize e-learning classes. We congratulate Dr. Samson Rwahwire upon the well-deserved award and once again for flying Busitema University’s flag high in the field of innovations in teaching
