July 2021 Intake for Diploma (Extension)

The Management and Governing Council of Virika School of Nursing and Midwifery informs the general public that they are inviting applicants for Diploma in Nursing (Extension) and Diploma in Midwifery (Extension) courses for July 2021 intake.

Follow the following steps to apply:

  1. Download the application form from here (click to download) or pick it from the school.
  2. Fill the application form and attach your academic documents, and deliver them at school
  3. Application and interview fee is shs. 50,000/= only paid at school.

Entry Requirement

Requirements for both the Certificate programs include: At a minimum: An “O” Level Certificate Passing grades in the following subject: Mathematics, English, Biology, Chemistry and Physics Requirements for DM; Registration with Nursing Council Certificate in midwifery or Nursing and a picture (if space allows) of school buildings or classrooms here.

Application Procedure

The application process includes:

  • Get an application form from the Academic Registrar’s office
  • Submit the filled application to the academic registrar’s office;
  • Attach a photocopy of your UCE pass slips, P7 pass slip and Certificates;
  • Provide a recommendation letter and an ID from your former school.

Application fees

A Non-Refundable Application/Interview Fee of UGX 50,000 for both Diploma and Certificate (excluding bank charges) should be paid on submission of the application form.

Virika School of Nursing offers a variety of health related courses to choose from for your carrier, the programmes include:

Diploma in Nursing Ext.(DNE)

This is a 1 ½ year study program. This program targets certificate level Enrolled Midwives and Enrolled Comprehensive Nurses, wishing to advance their education

Diploma In Midwifery Ext. (DME)

This is a 1 ½ year study program. This program targets certificate level Enrolled Midwives and Enrolled Comprehensive Nurses, wishing to advance their education

Certificate in Nursing (CN)

Certificate in General Nursing. (CN )This is a 2 ½ year training program

Certificate in Midwifery. (CM)

This is a 2 ½ year training program.

Virika school of Nursing and Midwifery Admission

  1. Diploma course in Midwifery (Extension) for 1½ years. This course is targeting EM and ECN.
  2. Certificate in General Nursing is for 2½ years. Those who join must have the minimum requirement of ‘O’Level certificate and having passed Mathematics, English, Biology, Chemistry and Physics.
  3. Certificate in Midwifery is also for 2½ years with the same requirements like the Certificate Nursing above.

The school has a functional Board committee responsible for discipline of students and staff plus other issues as they arise. The Principal Tutor is a member of the School Board Committee and the Hospital Management team which sits regularly to ensure smooth running of the day-to-day activities of the HTI. The school and hospital staff works together to instruct, guide, assess and instill professional conduct in the students.

2 Local Meals are provided like Posho, Matooke, and Beans e.t.c.
3 All the courses require practicum in health Centers and in the Hospital
3 At the end of the Course State Examination conducted by Uganda Nurses and Midwives Examination Board (UNMEB) is done.
4 The Successful Candidates register with Uganda Nurses and Midwifery Council for them to start practicing.
