Job Overview

Fenix is looking for an experienced, highly motivated and disciplined Global Financial Operations Fellow with a passion for entrepreneurship, renewable energy, and financial inclusion as well as relevant experience in financial operations & accounting. This position is a unique leadership role in a fast-paced start up at the front lines of renewable energy and mobile payment technology. 

The Global Financial Operations Fellow will report directly to the Global Financial Operations Manager as well as collaborate with other directors to manage the Accounting Team and ensure timely and accurate reporting as well as implement processes and controls to ensure best practices and adherence to global accounting standards and tax laws.

Key Responsibilities

Support existing expansion markets

  • Help to assist countries with all monthly reporting and analysis
  • Review completion of financial reconciliations and inventory management

Collaborate with the Finance and Business Development team to assist in the finance set-up and financial operations in new countries:

  • Help to finalize any necessary set up of systems, processes, procedures, separation of duties and safeguarding of assets for new countries
  • With the Finance Director and finance team, support overall expansion operations in country

Assist Global Finance team in efforts to roll out SAP API & modules

  • Participate in roll out of API
  • Participate in roll out additional modules such as Materials Planning, and Budgeting & Forecasting

Participate in global financial reporting activities, including:

  • Participate in  monthly financial reporting including financial reporting for war room, steering committee and ad hoc financial reporting.
  • Participate in budget and forecast vs. actual reporting, coordinating with global department heads and country teams to assess and respond to differences
  • Participate in compilation weekly EBITDA tracking tools across all specific new markets, and work with finance team to continue to improve process

Ad hoc projects

  • Own 2-3 specific projects enhancing the above functions for a specific country or with the Global team based on timing and greatest needs

Required Skills & Experience

  • B.A or B.S in Accounting or Business
  • At least 4 years experience in operational finance
  • Advanced proficiency in accounting software tools
  • Experience with enterprise resource planning systems
  • Advanced quantitative analysis skills and proficiency in excel
  • Ability to manage a multicultural team of financial operations staff
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills (English), French / Portuguese a plus 
  • Entrepreneurial spirit and collaborative nature
  • Attention to detail, strategic thinker
  • A passion for Fenix and our customers! 

Highly Desired Skills

  • Higher level certifications in accounting or finance
  • Work experience in a multinational company or financial institution, preferably with operations in Africa
  • Experience with risk assessment and loan portfolio health evaluation methodologies
  • Understanding of rural BOP markets, microfinance, mobile telecom and/or renewable energy industries in East Africa
