About Mbarara University Faculty of Medicine
Faculty of Medicine began in 1989 offering one programme Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MBChB) with a humble number of 43 students and 5 teaching staff this was when the National Resistance council passed a Statute establishing Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST).
To train health professionals (doctors, nurses, Pharmacists and laboratory scientists) who are acquainted with different working conditions and health needs of society and therefore who will be prepared to work in rural as well as urban settings.

Admission Requirement
The minimum requirements for admission to any Undergraduate degree are:
- Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) or its equivalent with at least 5 passes
- Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) or its equivalent with at least 2 principal passes.
- Diploma holders must have passed with at least a credit.
The minimum requirements for admission to any Diploma programme are:
- Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) or its equivalent with at least 5 passes
- Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) or its equivalent with at least 1 principal pass and two subsidiary passes.
The minimum requirements for admission to any Certificate programme are:
- Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) or its equivalent with at least 5 passes
Direct Entry
Two principal passes in Biology and Chemistry and at least Subsidiary Pass in either Physics or Mathematics
Diploma Entry
Diploma in any Bio-medical Sciences.
Be registered by the Allied Health Professionals’ Council or the Uganda Nurses and Midwives’ Council
Preference will be given to those with experience of working under primary health care in a rural setting
The candidates who meet the above criteria will be required to sit for an entrance examination in General Paper, Anatomy, Microbiology, Pharmacology and Physiology
