Organizational Setting 

The FAO Representation in Uganda provides technical assistance to the Government of Uganda in the agriculture, forestry, fisheries and related sectors. The Regional Agro-Pastoral (AP) and Farmer Field School (FFS) Assistant will  support the field implementation in target cluster districts of GCP/UGA/043/LDF project entitled “Integrating climate resilience into agricultural and pastoral production in Uganda, through a Farmer/Agro-pastoralist Field School Approach” funded by the Global Environment Facility. This project aims to build climate resilience into the agricultural sector, as an effective means of reducing vulnerability and disseminating community-level adaptation measures

Reporting Lines 
Under the overall supervision of the FAO Representative in Uganda in collaboration with the Deputy FAO Representative and Team Leader – Climate Change Program, the Regional AP and FFS Assistant reports directly to the National Project Coordinator (NPC). 
Technical Focus 
The Regional AP and FFS Assistant will support the field implementation and monitoring of the projects in the assigned target cluster districts. 
Tasks and responsibilities 
The AP and FFS Assistant will be responsible for the following: Provide day to-today operations support to implementing partners and technical backstopping to ensure that the non-negotiable AP/FFS priciples are followed ;Participate in moblisation and sensitization of farmers to engage in all the project activities ;Participate in organising and facilitating stake holder planning and review meetings as well as inception meeting ;Disseminate information about climate change adaptation approaches to target beneficiciary farmers(FFS), wider farming community and other key stakeholders in the target district.Provide technical and logistical support to facilitators,AP/FFS networks and the beneficiary AP/FFSUndertake frequent field visits to the project sites in order to assist to supervise, provide technical advice and monitor the progress of the establishments of AP/FFSWorking closely with other Project Management Unit (PMU) staff and in particular the National AP/FFS specialist and regional facilitators to ensure that Gender and Capacity development incorporated well into FFS and FFS networks ;Prepare monthly reports  
CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING  
Minimum Requirements 
Diploma or Degree related to Agriculture (Crop production, Animal husbandry, Agro-forestry, Water management), Agricultural Economics and  Natural Resources Management and rural development;At least three years’ experience working with local communities in the agricultural sector in Uganda;Demonstrated previous experience working with the field school approach to extension or with similar approaches;Previous experience working with international partners on related issues.Working knowledge of English National of Uganda  FAO Core Competencies Results Focus Teamwork Communication Building Effective Relationships Knowledge Sharing and Continuous Improvement  Selection Criteria Extent and relevance of experience and knowledge in the agriculture production Extent and relevance of experience and knowledge in natural resources management Extent and relevance of experience in farmer field school approach to extension Extent of knowledge and experiences in working with various stakeholders in Uganda including UN, Government, International Development Organizations, Donors,  NGOs, private sector, academics, and others Writing and communication skills Ability to manage a high workload, meet tight deadlines and multi-task under pressure
