What is Customary Marriage?
Customary marriage is a marriage celebrated according to the rites of an African community and one of the parties to which is a member of that community.

Photocopy of identification documents for the couple and 2 witnesses.
Cover letter from the sub-county chief of the sub-county where the marriage took place.
A duly filled Form B (marriage certificate in the Format prescribed by law) signed and stamped by the sub-county chief/ or certified copy of the same.
How is Customary Marriage done in Uganda?
The registrar shall, upon payment of the prescribed fee, enter such details of the marriage as
maybe prescribed in the customary marriage register book and he or she, the parties to the marriage, and the witnesses shall sign their names in the customary marriage register book.

parties. The certificate acts as evidence of customary marriage for all legal purposes.
