What is Marriage?

Marriage, also called matrimony or wedlock, is a culturally and often legally recognized union between people called spouses.

It establishes rights and obligations between them, as well as between them and their children, and between them and their in-laws.

.1 Notice of Marriage Signed by one of the parties to the intending marriage.

1.2 Affidavit by the intending couple

1.3 Certificate of notice by the registrar

1.4 marriage is to take place within three months from the date of issue of the certificate.

1.5 Place and time of celebration of marriage.

1.5.1 Marriage In A Licensed Place Of Worship (Church Marriage)

1.5.2 Marriage In The Registrar’s Office (Civil Marriage)

1.6 Issuance of marriage certificate and registration.

What are the formalities of church marriage in Uganda?

This is what is called Church Marriage. The marriage must be celebrated with open doors,

between the hours of 8 o’clock in the forenoon and 6 o’clock in the afternoon (i.e. between 8:00 AM -6:00 PM). There must be two witnesses to the marriage present besides the officiating minister.

How is a marriage conducted in the church in Uganda?

There are several kinds of marriage legally recognized and that may be contracted in Uganda, namely,

Church marriage is monogamous (one man one wife) contracted under the Marriage Act Cap 251 and celebrated in a place of worship or other licensed place before a licensed officiating officer of the church.
