What is a driver’s license?
A driver’s license is a legal authorization, or the official document confirming such an authorization, for a specific individual to operate one or more types of motorized vehicles such
as motorcycles, cars, trucks, or buses on a public road. Such licenses are often plastic and the size of a credit card.
Renewing driver’s license in Uganda
Go to the UDLS offices with the proof of payment/payment registration number, mandatory identification document, and an original copy of the license you want to renew.
*If you lost or damaged your license, we shall require a police letter in place of the original copy of the expired license.

How long is a driver’s license valid in Uganda?
A full driver’s license can renew up to 2 years after expiry, beyond that the license lapses and
renewing this will involve another visit to the IOV.
How long does it take to renew a driver’s license in Uganda?
Once you submit all documents for renewal or a new license, our head office in Kampala should issue your license in about an hour,
while branches outside of Kampala should issue the license within forty-eight hours.
