How long can Cooking Oil last?
Unopened vegetable oil can last up to 24 months if stored in a cool, dry place.
Oils high in polyunsaturated fats like canola oil will go bad quicker than oils higher in monounsaturated fats like olive oil and peanut oil. Once opened, good-quality oil can last up to a year.
How do you know if cooking oil is bad?
If it has an “off” odor perhaps like crayons, metal, or something sour it’s past its prime. To see if olive oil is past its prime, pour some into a spoon and sniff it.
Sour odors mean that it’s rancid. It’ll have an off smell if it’s gone bad.
