Here is how best you can cook Pilau Rice in Uganda


Rinse the rice in a strainer under cool, running water. 

Melt the butter over medium heat and toast the cashews for 2 minutes.

Cook the spices in the melted butter for 1 minutes. 

Saute the diced onion and chopped red pepper on low for 3 minutes. 

Stir the rice into the saucepan to toast for 3 minutes. 

Steaming the Rice


Pour 1.75 cups (410 mL) of broth into the pan and bring to a boil. 


Reduce the heat and simmer for 15-20 minutes without lifting the lid.

Remove the pan from heat and let it sit covered for 10 minutes to steam. 

Fluff the rice with a fork and serve!

How to cook pilau rice with meat in Uganda?

Steps. Cut the meat into cubes, wash, and boil in water containing 1 tsp each of ginger and garlic paste, 1 tsp of salt, tsp of black pepper, 1 grated tomato and 1 grated onion.

When the meat is tender, drain it and set aside. Keep the soup for cooking Pearl Rice.

How long does pilau rice last in the fridge?

Storage: Store this rice in the fridge in an airtight container for up to four days or freezer for up to one month.

Store as soon as it has cooled down and don’t leave it out at room temperature for too long. Don’t reheat more than once.
