What is Driving Permit?

A driver’s permit, learner’s permit, learner’s license, or provisional license is a restricted license

that is given to a person who is learning to drive but has not yet satisfied the prerequisite to obtain a driver’s license.

A certificate of competence for the applicant duly stamped and endorsed at the back by the Inspector of Vehicles (IOV) specifying the group(s) of vehicles the applicant is qualified to drive.

A driving test revenue receipt should be attached.

A valid provisional driving license should be attached.

Application Form UCDP1 must be completed and a recommendation from a medical practitioner is required.

Application made on form TR VII (one copy) duly completed and signed by the applicant who must be of the age of 18 years and above.

In case of an exchange permit, the original national license (not an international driving permit) which must be valid at the time of exchange must be attached.

How long is a Driving Permit valid In Uganda?

A learner license is given a duration of 3 months; if these pass before the applicant has visited

the IOV and passed the competence test, then they would have to renew their license.

How long does it take to process a driving permit in Uganda?

 Once you submit all documents for renewal or a new license, our head office in Kampala should issue your license in about an hour,

while branches outside of Kampala should issue the license within forty-eight hours.
