COWA Centenary Vocational Training School (COWA CVTS) is one of the Programmes of Companionship of Works Association (COWA). 

It was founded to address the needs of the HIV / AIDS girl orphans who were left without skills or possibility to continue with academic education after the death of their parents. Today, however, the School is open to take in all orphans regardless of the nature of their parents’ deaths as well as other vulnerable youth from very difficult socioeconomic backgrounds who are in need of our services.

To bring out mature and fully empowered young women and men who have the capacity to make a difference in their lives and that of others in the surrounding communities.

To promote integral development of the vulnerable youth in Uganda through vocational / life skills training.

Courses

1. Catering / Hospitality

Trainees are taught preparation and serving of different dishes especially European and local dishes,

Housekeeping, Food hygiene, Nutrition and Front Office Operations. We also carry out field practical training in Catering department offering outdoor catering services to our clients.

2. Tailoring

In our Tailoring Department the following course components are offered:

[a] Garment Cutting and making:

Trainees acquire skills in making different attires such as shirts , skirts, blouses, men and ladies suits, baby dresses, overalls, curtains, cushion covers, name it. We do quality work for our customers.

[b] Machine Embroidery:

In this course unit, trainees are trained on how to embroider designs on different fabrics: cushion covers, table clothes, blouses etc .

[c] Screen printing & Surface Designing:

We train the youth to print banners, T-Shirts for different occasions, badges, cushions, table clothes, plain fabrics for casual wears etc. They also tie and dye plain materials with different designs prompting their innovativeness and creativity.

3. Computer Training – Department of Information and Communication Technology (ICT).

COWA CVTS’ department of ICT offers wholesome computer skills training to its trainees. The program is compulsory for all trainees and it is taught simultaneously with the two main stream courses (Catering and Tailoring). For them to fit in the labour market the need to use modern technology is indispensable so they are introduced into the world of Computers.

Microsoft office programs that include: Introductions to computers, window operating system, Microsoft Word, MS Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Internet concepts among others.

Computer training at COWA CVTS is not limited to full time and regular trainees only but also it is open to community members who are interested in the program. They pay for the services which help boasts our locally generated income for sustainability of the project. Enrollment for this particular course unit is done on a rolling basis, so you can join us at anytime of the year for a certificate in computer application.
