Occasional students

Occasional students are those students, registered in their home universities that undertake electives / particular course units of interest BUT do not take their degrees at Mbarara University. At the end of the study they are awarded their partial transcripts and results as proof that they have studied

  • Short stays take less than a semester
  • Long stays take 1 academic year

Regular students

Regular students, these are international students admitted for a full time program at MUST and are expected to attain their certificates and degrees from MUST.

Most international students are required to present an equivalent of their results. This can be done with Uganda National Examination Board (UNEB).

  • All academic documents presented must be from an accredited institution
  • CASES OF IMPERSONATION, FALSIFICATION OF DOCUMENTS OR GIVING FALSE/ INCOMPLETE INFORMATION WHENEVER DISCOVERED WILL LEAD TO AUTOMATIC CANCELLATION OF ADMISSION.
  • Completed Applications must be accompanied with certified copies of academic documents
  • Applicants whose first language is not English or did not go through an education system with English as a medium of instruction will be required to provide evidence from a recognized English language training institution that they have sufficient command of English language to cope with the programmes.

Online application procedure

  1. Go to https://applications.must.ac.ug
  2. If you don’t have an Access Code, click “Click here to get an Access Code”, fill in the form and submit. An Access Code will then be sent to your email and phone number. If you already have an Access Code, proceed to step 3.
  3. Enter you email address and Access Code that has been sent to your phone number to login
  4. Select the application category i.e. Direct Entry and click “Apply Now”
  5. Fill in the application form and submit
  6. Click “Pay for Form” to generate a payment reference number to be used for paying application fees in the bank
  7. If you’re a degree or diploma holder, Click “Print Form” and attach the printed form to the hard copies of certified academic and other the supporting documents and mail the hard copies to the University or submit it to any of the liaison offices
  8. Go to the bank and pay the application fees using the payment reference number generated in “Step 6”

MINIMUM ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

  • Hold the Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE)/O’ Level or its equivalent with a minimum of a pass in at least 5 subjects obtained at the same sitting.
  • Hold the Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE)/A’ Level with at least 2 principal passes or its equivalent obtained at the same sitting for applicants to a degree programme.
  • Diploma holders should have at least a credit from an accredited institution.
  • Degree holders should have an honors degree from an accredited degree awarding institution.
  • For applicants to Diploma programmes, hold the Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE)/A’ Level with at least 1 principal pass and two subsidiary passes or its equivalent obtained at the same sitting.

Admission requirements for postgraduate programmes

MINIMUM ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

The minimum requirements for admission to any Postgraduate degree are:

  1. Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) or its equivalent with at least 5 passes
  2. Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) or its equivalent with at least 2 principal passes.
  3. An Honors degree from an accredited degree awarding institution
  4. Candidates who have a Pass degree should have at least a Postgraduate Diploma with at least a credit from an accredited degree awarding institution.

DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY

The University offers PhD in the fields of Biomedical Engineering, Computing, Development Studies, Education, Management, Medicine and Science. Program duration is 3 years.

Minimum Requirements

  1. Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) or its equivalent with at least 5 passes
  2. Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) or its equivalent with at least 2 principal passes.
  3. An Honors degree from an accredited degree awarding institution
  4. A Masters’ degree from an accredited degree awarding institution
  5. A Concept paper
  6. Curriculum Vitae of proposed supervisor(s).

INTERNATIONAL APPLICANTS

Additionally, for international applicants:

  1. Applicants whose first language or medium of instruction is not English, must provide evidence from a recognized English language training institution that they have sufficient command of English language.
  2. Applicants should have their documents verified by NCHE.
  3. Applicants should have their degree certificate and transcript translated and converted into an equivalent of Ugandan Universities’ CGPA
  4. For applicants to clinical programmes;
    1. Have documentary evidence of Internship Training indicating disciplines and dates.
    2. Be registered or eligible for registration with Uganda Medical and Dental Practitioners Council.
    3. A current certificate of good standing with the Medical Practitioners’ Council of the country of origin.
