The Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda has Tuesday, January 19 released results for examinations administered between 18 – 22 December, 2020 at examination centres in Arua, Fort Portal, Gulu, Kampala, Mbale, Mbarara, Mbale and
Nkozi.
The results released by the Public Accountants Examinations Board (PAED) acting chairperson, CPA, Assoc. Prof. Twaha Kaawaase alongside other council members included those of Accounting Technicians Diploma (ATD), Certified Public Accountants (CPA), and Certified Tax Advisor (CTA) courses.
Officials said that only 4,453 candidates attempted the examinations compared to 16,888 candidates who sat for the same in 2019.
For the ATD exams, a total of 151 candidates sat for the December 2020 exams compared to 225 who sat in November 2019.
The average pass rate was 45.5% compared to 43.3% in November 2019.
For the Certified Tax Advisor (CTA), 58 candidates sat for the December 2020 exams compared to 110 who sat in June 2019.
The average pass rate was 41.2% compared to 45.7% in November 2019.
For Certified Public Accountants of Uganda (CPA), according to officails, 4244 candidates sat for the exams in December compared to 6181 in November 2019.
The average pass rate was 32.2% compared to 31.2 % in November 2019. Additionally, officials indicated,1,325 made it on their first attempt.
Kaawaase congratulated those candidates who passed their various examinations papers, the top candidates in the various subjects and those who have completed their courses.
He added that students were impacted by COVID-19 in various ways and were not able to sit for examinations since they could not prepare adequately.
“We encourage them to make an effort to pass those subjects at the subsequent examinations diets,” said, noting that COVID-19 is going to be around for some time until we get a
vaccine.
Uganda currently has a total of about 3,500 qualified accountants and slightly above 2,000 are active, according to ICPA-U officials.
