WCR is hiring two Agronomy Technicians in Uganda to implement World Coffee Research’s activities under the Global Coffee Monitoring Program (GCMP). Technicians will be based in the regions of Kasese and Elgon respectively. Successful candidates will report to both the Regional GCMP Coordinator (RC) based in Rwanda and Country Agronomist based in Uganda. The technicians will establish partnerships to install and maintain coffee field trials in Kasese and Elgon regions in order to advance knowledge of coffee variety performance and farming practices to improve farm profitability. The successful candidates are expected to start in January 2020.

Job Responsibilities:
• Become proficient in and implement activities according to WCR’s standardized procedures.
• Establish and maintain good working relationships with industry partners, coffee farmers, partner, and government agronomists.
• Coordinate and oversee all activities and data collection for trials in the respective area, while ensuring that activities are on time and carried out according to WCR’s protocols.
• With support of the country agronomist organize trainings on farm trial installation, maintenance and data collection.
• Develop an annual work plan of activities and visit trial sites on a regular basis.
• With the support of the Country Agronomist, he or she is responsible for calculating plants needed for trials, overseeing growth in nurseries, delivery and planting at the appropriate time.
• Together with Country agronomist, organize farmer field days to increase learning from the trials.
• Prepare regional monthly reports.
• Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisors.

Job Qualifications:
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in agronomy, preferably coffee agronomy.
• University degree or two year diploma in agriculture, related field, or equivalent.
• Strong experience in agronomic data collection
• Experience in establishing and maintaining professional partnerships.
• Ability to write and speak English is necessary, and proficiency in any work station local language (Lugisu for Elgon and Lukonjo for Kasese) is desired.
• Must be self-motivated, organized, and able to operate well both independently and in a team.
• Must be able to communicate effectively with different groups of people, such as rural farmers, business representatives, government workers and scientists.
• Computer skills, especially Microsoft word packages (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint) and Skype.
• Interest in the vision and work of WCR.
