The main objective of the Association is to improve on the quality of training and continuous professional development in the TVET sector. The seventy six (76) institutions include four (4) vocational Institutes, four (4) farm institutes and sixty eight (68) technical institutes.

The cost of skills training whether formal, informal or non-formal is relatively high and in most cases unaffordable by the majority of the training providers, hence compromising the quality. TVET system is expected to emerge from an educational sub-sector into a comprehensive system of skills development for employment, enhanced productivity and growth. TAPTVIU leadership will initiate, guide and provide a platform to ensure that all institutions are inventive, innovative, creative and integrative. . Most of our member institutions lack necessary computers, tools, machinery and equipment’s to facilitate competence based training as enshrined in the new curriculum developed by National Curriculum Development Centre.

The association was founded with a major goal of having a common force to create employable skills and competences relevant in the labour market both at national and international standards.advocate for professionalization, career growth and development and welfare improvement for the BTVET Staff and ensuring that BTVET institutions produce quality graduates who are competitive both on the local and international market. In addition, the association seeks to promote entrepreneurship among BTVET to improve their income at household level in accordance with the Government goal to attain vision 2040.

  • Objectives and Priority Interventions
  1. To strengthen the association to ensure effective implementation of the approved programs
  2. To promote innovations, creativity, productivity among TVET Institutions & staff for financial sustainability;
  3. Reduce the skills gap between TVET graduates and the labor market;
  4. To enhance the capacity of TVET human resources for improved professionalism and quality of TVET graduates.
  • Priority Interventions by Objective

Objective 1: To strengthen the association to ensure effective implementation of the approved programs;

Strategy

  • Develop and implement the legal, governance and institutional frameworks for the association;
  • Develop and implement operational guidelines for the secretariat;
  • Establish a fully equipped office for the association;
  • Develop and implement a framework for integration of cross cutting issues ( Gender and Equity, HIV/AIDS and Environment) in the associations programmes;
  • Develop and implement a resource mobilization strategy (logistical, technical and financial) for effective implementation of the associations agenda;
  • Identify potential partners (institutions, associations, corporations, government bodies, NGOs) to develop and establish memoranda of Understanding for purposes of fostering the objectives of the association;
  • Promote and attract students to join BTVET institutions through regional and national games and sports competitions.

Objective 2: To promote innovations, creativity, productivity among TVET Institutions & staff for financial sustainability

  • Promotion of research and innovation among BTVET professionals;
  • Establish a forum for exchange of ideas, knowledge and information for the best interest of the association;
  • Build the capacity of members in entrepreneurship skills through training and bench marking;
  • Identify and implement viable income generating enterprises for the association.

Objective 3: Reduce the skills gap between BTVET graduates and the labor market;

  • Advocate for recognition of prior learning & international accreditation of BTVET institutions;
  • Establish a mechanism for involving private sector in curriculum development and review;
  • Design, promote and Implement skills competition programs aimed at promoting innovation & creativity.
  • Promote regional, national and international exhibitions

Objective 4: To enhance the capacity and welfare BTVET human resources for improved professionalism and quality of BTVET graduates.

  • Liaise with relevant Government agencies to achieve a competitive remuneration and other welfare benefits;
  • Develop and implement programmes for continuous professional development and growth of BTVET staff;
  • Enroll BTVET staff to reputable professional bodies for professional growth; Establish a Savings and Credit Cooperative for BTVET staff across the country;
  • Liaise with relevant government institutions to access affordable credit for the association;
