Bukalasa Agricultural College

Bukalasa Agricultural Training Centre (BATI), also Bukalasa Agricultural College, is a public vocational training institute operated and administered by the Uganda Ministry of Education and Sports

The institute is located in the neighborhood of Bukalasa, approximately 3.5 kilometres (2 mi) Bukalasa is approximately 50 kilometres (31 mi), by road, north of Kampala, the capital and largest city of Uganda

The institute was established by the government of Uganda in 1920, as a cotton research centre. Over the years, through mergers with other institutions, the centre was transformed into a comprehensive agricultural research and training institute.

Courses Offered At Bukalasa Agricultural College

The institute offers the following courses:Diploma courses

(a) Diploma in Crop Production and Management

(b) Diploma in Animal Production and Management

(c) Diploma in Agribusiness Management

(d) Diploma in Floriculture. Certificate courses

(a) Certificate in Crop Production and Management

(b) Certificate in Animal Production and Management

(c) Certificate in Floriculture and (d) Certificate in Apiary.

Bukalasa Agricultural College Application form

Only female holders of Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) with at least two principal  passes obtained at the same sitting are eligible or only females with Diplomas from recognized institutions are eligible.

Admission Requirement

The females who passed the Mature Age Examination by the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) are also eligible.

The female applicants must be interested in rural development.

Attach duplicate copies (not originals) of your academic and non-academic certificates and transcripts.

Fees Structure for Bukalasa Agricultural College

Attach an original receipt of application fee of Uganda Shs20,000/= obtainable from the University Bursar at ARU Campus or ARU contact office in Kampala.

It should be NOTED by all the applicants that cases of impersonation, falsification of documents or giving false information is a criminal offense in Uganda Courts of Law.

Bukalasa Agricultural College Entry Requirements

Diploma Courses Requirements
Advanced Level Certificate with at least a principal pass in Biology/Agriculture plus 2 subsidiary passes in the main subject combination.
OR
A Junior Certificate from recognised Farm School with at least a credit at both stages plus a good ordinary level certificate with at least 3 credits in
science subjects including Biology/ Agriculture and not failures in English and Mathematics

Certificate Courses Requirements
Good ordinary level certificate with at least 3 credits in science subjects notably Biology/ Agriculture. English and Mathematics also must
have been passed.
NB: Government sponsors a few students at Diploma
level who are selected through the Joint Admissions Board

Time Table

The office is also responsible for designing the time tables for all the courses offered at the college and for both certificate and diploma. The time table for normal programme runs for 15 weeks and then the examination time table takes over for 2 weeks.

Normal time table runs from 6:30 am up to 5:00 pm Monday to Friday but on some occasions can happen over weekends.

Student Assesment At Bukalasa Agricultural College

The office goes on to also supervise the operations of the assessment (Assignments and examinations). During the semester, assignments (40%) are done and then at the end of the semester, students sit for the end of semester exams (60%). It receives results for the Academic Board and then proceeds to award the Transcripts and Certificates.

Distance Learning Programme:
In addition to the above, also Primary teachers in Agriculture and Education Teachers from NTCs are considered.

Entry requirement for Distance Learning
Diploma

  1. Certificate holders in Agricultural discipline.
    Credit / Distinction certificate
  2. Holders of Farm Schools Certificate with
    good ‘O’ level results.
  3. Primary teachers Diploma in Agricultural
    training.
  4. N.T.C Teachers Diploma in Education
    (Agriculture)

1 st semester 2 nd semester

Tailor-made course of 2 to 4 weeks’ duration are programmed starting August:
Poultry
Dairy production
Livestock feed mixing
Pig production
Horticulture
Apiary ( bee keeping)
Sustainable agriculture. Etc

 NAADS (National Agricultural Advisory Services)

 Commercial Agricultural Estates e.g. tea, sugar
etc.

 Self-employment.

INTERNATIONAL PROGRAMME:
There is an opportunity for an international internship
with Agro-studies for students who excel.

CAREER ADVANCEMENT:
Certificate holders can advance to Diploma level.
Diploma holders continue to higher institutions (including abroad) for degree courses.
