Uganda Police arrests Five over fake PLE Exams – 2019

Five people have been arrested and charged with forgery and issuing of forged documents in connection with the forthcoming UNEB examinations. The Five, including a lady with a baby, were arrested from Mubende by Police. The suspects were found selling fake papers which they purported to be this year’s PLE Final examinations.

Addressing the press from UNEB offices in Ntinda, Commissioner Fred Enanga said the suspects have been paraded to show the public that both UNEB and the Police are on the ground and are well prepared to counter all forms of examination fraud.  He said the suspects will also be charged under the computer misuse act as well as for extortion.

Mr. James Turyatemba, the UNEB Manager for Examinations, who spoke on behalf of the Executive Secretary said the suspects had fake papers for all the four PLE subjects, and were selling each paper at one million Ugandan Shillings to unsuspecting members of the public. He stressed that UNEB will continue to work with the Security Agencies to track down all the criminals involved in all forms of examination malpractice, and warned that both the sellers and the buyers will be culpable.

He assured the public that UNEB has the capacity and means to track down and bring to book anyone involved in the vicious racket of examination malpractice.  He said the management of the Board will do everything possible to live up to its mission of conducting valid, reliable, equitable and quality assessment of learners’ achievements in a professional and innovative manner for the award of internationally recognised certificates.

Mr. Turyatemba reiterated that it is the responsibility of every Ugandan to work with UNEB in ensuring quality assessment for quality education, adding that integrity and security in the management of examinations is everyone’s responsibility.  He commended the security agencies and other well-intentioned stakeholders that have made the arrests possible.

Four of the five suspects are teachers, while one is a health worker and a husband to a teacher.
