Busitema University Invitation For Application For Admissions Under Higher Education Access Certification (HEAC)

The Academic Registrar, Busitema University invites eligible applicants who wish to be considered for admission for HIGHER EDUCATION ACCESS CERTIFICATE (HEAC) under the private sponsorship scheme for 2019/2020 academic year.

Background Higher Education Access Certificate (HEAC) is the 4th Higher Education access route approved by National Council for Higher Education (NCHE). The HEAC is an intensive full time programme, designed to bridge the knowledge gap of students who might not have assumed knowledge required for a professional course or who might not have been confident with their preparation for university and tertiary level education study. It is designed with assumption that the applicant has some basic knowledge of the subjects for which he/she is being bridged. The programme is a preparation stage to enable access to university and tertiary education programmes.

The programme runs for two semesters (one year), and focuses on preparation of candidates in specific subjects that provide specific and generic academic skills to succeed in higher education system in the desired programmes. Upon successful completion of the programme, and depending on their performance, the candidates will be given the opportunity to access specific degree/diploma programmes of their choice in University and tertiary education system.

Aim of HEAC Programme The overall aim of the HEAC Programme is to provide entry opportunity for candidates who performed dismally at UACE, do not have appropriate qualifications based on current National admission criteria for higher education and those with foreign qualifications but do not merit admission to programmes at higher institutions of learning in Ugandan Education system.

HEAC programme targets both Ugandan citizens and the global community. The targeted learners include. Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) holders with at least two subsidiary passes or its equivalent. At least one of the subsidiary pass shall be from a principal subject. Vocational Qualifications at level 2 or level 3 of the Uganda Vocational Qualifications Framework. Qualifications equivalent to Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) as shall be determined by the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) in consultation with the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB). An ordinary certificate of education (UCE) from an institution recognized by NCHE/UNEB.

Students whose foreign secondary school qualifications are not considered equivalent to UACE but permit admission into Higher Education in the foreign country. Such students shall have passed at least five subjects with a minimum overall grade of C (equivalently a Ugandan grade 5). In addition, foreign students whose studies were not conducted in English shall show proof of proficiency in the English Language from English proficiency centers accredited by NCHE.

HMC: Combination provides access to following undergraduate Degree programmes (i) Teacher Education (Mathematics And Chemistry) (ii) Chemical Engineering (iii) Applied Sciences (Chemistry/Mathematics) (iv) Computer /Engineering/Sciences (v) Information Technology. (xii) Any related programmes. 4. HPM: Combination provides access to following undergraduate Degree programmes. (i) Engineering Sciences (ii) Teacher Education (Physics/ Mathematics), (iv) Statistics (v) Computer Science (vi) Information Technology. (xii) Any related programmes. 5. HEL: Combination provides access to following undergraduate Degree programmes; (i) Teacher Education (English /Literature Double Main), (ii) Mass Communication (iii) Social Science and Social Works. (xii) Any related programmes.

Mode of Application All candidates will apply online using the new AIMS system and the deadline for application is Friday, 28th June 2019.

An application fee of UgX 50,000 for East Africans or UgX 75,000 for Non East African candidates will be paid by all applicants. This amount excludes bank charges which may vary form one bank to another (Centenary or Stanbic bank)

2. Signup using full name, e-mail and mobile no. Please note that your name must be similar to the one on your supporting documents for your application to be considered.

3. A password will be sent to both your e-mail and mobile number.

4. The system will prompt you to change the password to the one you can easily remember.

5. To fill a form the applicant clicks on the apply now button displayed on the running scheme.

6. Obtain a payment advice slip by clicking on “Pay for the Form” button and get the reference which you will take the bank.

7. Make Payment at either Stanbic or Centenary bank.

NOTES:

(i) You are advised against submitting false information or forged documentations. Candidates who obtained results 7, 9, X, Y and Z at ‘O’ Level need not apply, since they do not meet the admission requirements. (ii) Students who are already registered on Busitema Programs are not ELIGIBLE to apply.
