Uganda Management Institute Postgraduate Admission 2020-2021

1.Admission to a PhD Program at UMI will require participants with a Master’s degree or equivalent from a recognized university in a related field.

2.There will be a review of each applicant to be conducted by the School Board on recommendation by the Departmental Boards (or a Joint Admissions Board comprising of all Department in the School). The School Board will in turn communicate its decisions to the Institute Registrar.

3.The admission will also involve a pre-entry examination which may be orally administered through an interview composed of subject experts in the applicants selected field of study or through a written Graduate Admission test for all applicants for the PhD Programme.

Applications are invited from suitably qualified applicants (private and government-sponsored) for admissions into various undergraduate, Postgraduate, Diploma, Certificate, Short Courses, Distance Learning and others programmes in any of Uganda Management Institute UMI intakes in the 2020/2021 academic year.

APPLICATIONS FOR THE POSTGRADUATE DIPLOMA & MASTERS COURSES FOR 2020/2020 ACADEMIC YEAR

This is to invite applications for courses leading to the award of the Postgraduate Diplomas & Masters Degrees indicated below during the 2020/2021 Academic Year. The Academic year of the Institute is divided into two semesters. The programmes have Day, Evening or Week-end streams, or both as shown against each of them. The day programmes begin in August and end in April. The evening programmes begin in September and end in August. The week-end programmes begin in October and end in October of each year.

Participants who complete the Postgraduate Diploma courses with at least a second class can proceed to do research for the Masters Degree. In effect the Postgraduate Diploma constitutes the first year of the Masters Degree programme. There are also two year masters courses with 3 taught semesters and 1 for research

MINIMUM ENTRY REQUIREMENTS FOR POST GRADUATE DIPLOMAS (SELECTION CRITERIA)
Postgraduate Diplomas: – A good degree from a recognised University, OR a recognised relevant professional qualification and working experience of least one year.

B. MASTERS PROGRAMMES

1. MASTERS IN MANAGEMENT STUDIES (MMS) – KAMPALA, MBARARA, GULU AND MBALE: MAY 2020 & AUGUST 2020.

The MMS is Research based, building on the coursework at the Postgraduate Diploma level obtained at UMI. Applicants must have passed the Postgraduate Diploma with at least a Second class.

2. MASTERS IN PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION (MPA)
3. MASTERS IN INSTITUTIONAL MANAGEMENT AND LEADERSHIP (MIML)
4. MASTERS IN HIGHER EDUCATION MANAGEMENT AND ADMINISTRATION
5. MASTERS IN PUBLIC PROCUREMENT (MPP)
6. MASTERS IN EDUCATION ADMINISTRATION AND HUMAN RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS FOR DIRECT MASTERS: Applicants shall be Holders of a Bachelor’s degree from an Institution of higher learning recognized by NCHE or Professional Chartered qualification, and working experience of at least two years.

7. MASTERS IN BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION (MBA) – KAMPALA, MBALE, GULU AND MBARARA BRANCHES (WEEKEND) – AUGUST 2020

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS:
(i) An honours Bachelor’s Degree from an Institution of higher learning recognized by NCHE
(ii) A professional qualification deemed equivalent to a Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized professional body.
(iii) Working experience of two years
(iv) Passing of a GMAT is mandatory.
GMAT will be administered on 13th May at 4.00 p.m. at UMI Main Campus for ONLY shortlisted applicants. For Mbarara, Gulu and Mbale the date for the GMAT will be confirmed after sufficient numbers have been realised.
