COMPLETED application forms for undergraduate admission to all Faculties should be received by 30 September in the Student Bureau, P O Box 94, Grahamstown 6140 for enrolment in the following year. Applications received after the end of September will be considered at the discretion of the Registrar.

NB late applications will only be considered at the discretion of the Registrar.

Admission requirements

The normal admission requirement for any undergraduate degree at Rhodes University is a National Senior Certificate with an endorsement for degree studies. In addition, each faculty has laid down its minimum requirements for admission.

All students intending to register as candidates for degrees must produce their National Senior Certificates or equivalent certificates either before, or as soon as possible after, entering the University. Failure to do so will result in a change in registration status.

Students who have attended courses at another university should obtain a transcript and, if they attended another university in the Republic, a certificate of good conduct from the university previously attended. Application for exemption for courses completed at another university should be directed to the Student Bureau with the initial application to the University and must be accompanied by brief course outlines.

Registration

The academic year begins in February. Students are expected to register on the stipulated date in February. Late registrations may be accepted with the approval of the Registrar. However, a late registration fee will be charged.

 Below you will find general fees that you can expect to pay when applying to Rhodes University.

Application Fees

The closing date for applications from all new students for admission to the University is 30 September. This is also the official deadline for foreign applicants.

Initial applications for admission must be accompanied by a non refund¬able application fee of R100 for all applicants. Late applications will be considered.

No applications from foreign students can be considered after 30 September.

Tuition Fees (estimate)

R32 120 to R55 770 (this varies from degree to degree)

Allow approximately R6 050 for books and stationery.

Note: that these fees shown do NOT include travel expenses or pocket money.

Residence Fees

R57 200 to R60 060 (this includes all meals but excludes vacations)
The residence fees also depend on the grade of accommodation chosen.

Acceptance Fees

Tuition Acceptance Fee

This deposit is payable on acceptance of an academic place at the University.
The fee payable for 2020 is R800.

This deposit must be paid by a date specified in the letter of acceptance.

The deposit is non-refundable and will be forfeited should the student choose
not to register
 at the University.

Residence Acceptance Fee

Upon acceptance of a place at the University, a R1 000.00 residence deposit must be paid
before a student is allocated to a residence

This deposit is non-refundable and will be forfeited to the University should the student
fail to register and into residence for at least one term
